5 Reason Why You Should visit Bhutan
The king and the people believe that GNH (Gross national happiness) is more important than GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Bhutan is covered with almost 70% forest and still remains carbon negative. It has a population around 7 lakhs and education & medical expenses are completely free.
When you make your first steps in Bhutan, you will definitely feel the difference. The air you breathe feels so fresh, surrounded by huge mountains and trees, all over. If you visit between Novembers –February, probably you will experience snowfall.
Be its festival or any other ceremony, Bhutanese people should wear their national dress. For men it’s Gho and for women, it’s Kira, beautifully woven by Bhutanese girls. Dzongkha is the native national language spoken widely in Bhutan and most of the Bhutanese do understand Hindi. Archery is the national game mostly played during Losar (a type of festival).
Bhutanese are fond of eating chillis, and most curry contains a large amount of chillis with cottage cheese, as Ema datshi (national dish of Bhutan) are purely made up of chilli and cheese. If you visit Bhutan, you should try once, it looks very simple but really delicious.
Textiles and souvenir
Bhutan has a very unique essence of textile, be its handwoven wool yathras (made up of pure strips of wool) or Bangchung (made up of bamboo strips) mainly used for eating meals. There are lots of handicrafts shops in Bhutan, selling enormous types of textile product and different types of the stamp used during the ’90s.
There is lot more places to visit in Bhutan, but I will suggest you to visit Tiger nest monastery (Taag-tsang) beautifully located just above the cliff and Buddha Dordenma statue in Thimphu city, populary know as Buddha Point which is of 169 ft. tall, purely made up of Gold and bronzes.
The best thing about the monument is that, its hold 125000 small Buddha inside it. You can also go for a short trails hike within Thimphu, like visiting Botanical Park in Lampelri (where you can find different species of rhododendron) or explore Phajoding Lake.
